Hydromaster

Retractable Thrusters

Auxiliary propulsion and station keeping

Typically installed in the bow, the Hydromaster Retractable Thruster offers enhanced manoeuvrability and station keeping control. When not in use it is fully retracted inside and flush with the hull optimising hydrodynamic efficiency.

Propulsion configuration

Available in an L-drive version (either electric or hydraulic driven) as well as a Z-drive to suit a diesel engine or horizontal electric motor.

When the thruster is lowered below the hull it provides maximum transverse thrust (non-steerable version) or thrust in all directions (fully 360° steerable version).

The unit also features the possibility to provide bi-directional transverse thrust in retracted position by constructing tunnel extensions on either side of the mounting box, putting it to optimum use.

Lifting and steering can be either hydraulic or electrically powered.

Applications

Hydromaster’s Retractable Thrusters can be applied for vessels that require optimal hydrodynamic efficiency and in need of additional manoeuvrability in the bow or stern:

  • Fast ferry’s
  • Offshore support vessels
  • Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessels
  • Supply vessels
  • Research vessels
  • Stand-by and Rescue Vessels

Key features

  • Fully retractable for reduced drag
  • Available with diesel, electric, or hydraulic drives
  • Combi thruster mode (tunnel thruster in retracted position)
  • Enhanced auxiliary propulsion and station keeping
